I was curious enough to check if this was real and it is. The picture belongs to a Chinese girl who was beaten by Sue Ellen in a video game.
Ooooh thank you. The video game plot point gives necessary context for the character's name.
After reading the forward for the new translation to Jourmey to the West, I figured Mao was a monkey furry.
