A nice strong bow + bomb arrows did the trick for me earlier. It was in one of the mazes though so I'm not sure if that helped keep them clustered though.
It's also best if you can enter bullet time to do this so you can get a bunch of hits off without being attacked back. This is how I get through this enemy every time.

I just let them grab me, I free myself and hit them one or twice, and repeat.
Not the best tactic but I use my highest armor so I don't get much damage.
