As with a lot of things on imgur, it started on reddit.
Imgur literally started because a redditor wanted a place to host images for reddit posts, eventually turning into its own community, but with an interface largely based on reddit stuff (upvotes, downvotes, cake day, etc).

It's crazy, cuz I've been am imgurian for 11 years and just got on reddit as it was shutting down.
