Early game (RoG)

How do you begin your new world?

Do you try rushing ruins or maybe look around a little bit and plop a base down.

Typically I'll map out the edge of the world and open up a cave to try and find Bunnymen and lightbulbs for lanterns and early rot. Going through every wormhole is also a must as It'll help me decide where to base when the time comes.

I also try to precraft as much as I can so everything will be ready to place once I find my base location.

I like to ruins "rush" every time. By rush, I mean, I want to have made a starcaller staff before winter. So my early game is all about getting the basic supplies, smashing enough pig houses to make an alchemy station, a chest, football helmets, and a ham bat. If I'm quick enough, then I'll start farming koaelephants and making jerky, otherwise, I'll just load up on carrots and meatballs and hope bananas will sustain me long enough to get the staff in the ruins.

I like having the star-caller staff for the Klaus fight and shadow chess pieces, but it's easy to make do without it. I don't care for bearger in year 1 so I'm more than happy to skip out on that battle in favor of ruins gear.

In general, I find the caves/ruins to be the most fun part of the game so I try to prioritize spending my time there.
