[Haiku] Summertime vibes

An old silent pond...
A frog jumps into the pond,
splash! Silence again.

Huzzah! Cave story!

I didn't know there are such nice wallpapers of it out there. Where did you find this one?

Not Unix doe

Serpentian@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 2y (1 reply)

It's not. But there's Windows as a top 1 post of this community. So, it's not a big deal)

HaikuOS, simply FANTASTIC! Out of curiosity are you using it as a daily driver? I've tried early beta (2010 or so) and it was super fast but not enough to use it every day...

Serpentian@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Just tested in VM. Still in beta, as stated on their site. Some apps are constantly crashing. It's definitely not ready for daily use, unfortunately

Nah, I like window management in Haiku too much. I will give it a try on real hardware."

I installed Haiku on this Laptop from 1999 once since it was actually the only non-windows OS I could get to run for some reason. Video driver was bugged tho so the screen was visually offset by ~100 pixels which made it too hard to use. Otherwise though it ran at a bearable normal speed which is a huge feat for the something like 500MHz processor and 500MB/1GB of RAM (I forget the exact specs).

Browser works, it's enough for the average Windows user)

admin@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 2y

If ssh works then the average Linux SysAdmin is covered too!

looks awesome, I didn't know there was a dock for haiku

Serpentian@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 2y

It's not a default one, name is HiQDock. Though, it's not very usable. As there's no transparency supported, it takes screenshot of a background, so it might cause graphical glitches. The default dock (see the screen with Cave Story) is much better, works perfect

Is that icon theme available outside of Haiku OS?

Serpentian@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 2y

I liked it a lot too. Here

I love the look of haiku, I'll probably use it if it ever reaches a stable release.

GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 2y

Wow that is uhh uncommon. Not sure I'm smart enough to use such interface without a week or two of learning. 10/10

Love the look. I wonder if there's a Cave Story port for HaikuOS?
