Commodore Plus/4: Usage Concerns

Hey,

So I want to use my Plus/4 but I don't want to kill it. I've read/heard that the Plus/4 will eventually off itself, the TED will die(?) So I'm scared to use the damn thing.

I got a bunch of tapes I want to play, but I don't want to damage the thing. What's the approach to ensure I don't cook the TED from just using it?

PS: Not power supply related. I have a Ray Carlsen multi PSU.

No updates in a few years, I think, but maybe the ThED TED replacement chip is still going to happen? https://retrohax.net/the-thed-project-update-3/

Oh darn, no updates; you're right. I might send a message.

Thanks --Henry

Good luck! I had a plussy growing up and enjoyed the faster disk drive, the advanced BASIC (compared to the VIC-20 and 64) and the machine code monitor/simple assembler it had built in. Nowadays there are quite a few good games too (homebrews and bootleg ports) but back then we mostly had to make do with C16 games (16K…).

Thanks. All of the tapes I have are for the C16 too. I get it, you gotta market to your wider audience. :) Cheers Henry
