Observation: Right now, if someone wants to find an answer to a question, they can type that question into Google and add "reddit" to the end. This usually provides the answer that someone is looking for. I have tried a few random searches with the addition of "lemmy" to the end, with no such results. As Google's search engine seemed to shift focus and SEO became disastrously popular, I think reddit also saw increase in popularity because of the simple fact that you could append "reddit".
Inquiry: Does/will lemmy (fediverse?) have the same potential for content discoverability?

I think eventually we'll get there for this. It takes time but SEO will likely happen.
Time is important though, I think it'll be quite a bit of time (years) before it's as useful as appending reddit.

Give it time! It’s definitely possible, but will still require more usage, as well as time. And some SEO. But we’ll get there.

I was about to ask the same question.
The thing is reddit is one website so you can easily ask google to filter on
site:reddit.comwhereas lemmy has plethora of instances (domains), so I wonder how this will happen technically… Unless someone creates a domain and index all lemmy instances, I don’t think this will be possible.
