AskReddit has YouTube channels that feature its content. Do you think AskLemmy or AskKbin communities should have their own channels too?

Aren't those channels just randos reading Reddit posts for views? They're not officially tied to the subreddit or anything.

Which is to say, be the change you want to see.

Exactly, I don't think we really have any say in whether that happens.

Those channels are just random people trying to monetize content people post for free. Considering that, I personally hope we don't see any of those channels pop up for lemmy, because I feel like the entire point of lemmy is to move away from monetizing the internet, so if people start monetizing content on here, I feel like it could influence the type or quality of content posted, and then we just become another reddit.

and i feel like lemmy could be a better place than reddit. but not if monetization starts creeping in.

Yeah, a ton of people have tried their hand at turning Askreddit into videos. It's a genre. I've watched a few of them because Askreddit is interesting and having this curated experience is even better.

However, as always with YouTube, if it's easy to do then a lot of people are already doing it, so there's a lot of channels doing this and most of them don't go anywhere. A lot of times you can tell the process is as automated as possible.

The same thing will be done with Asklemmy when there's enough content to support a channel

Yes, but how about putting it on PeerTube instead?

Why? They're just recycling other people's content.

I like (some) askreddit videos, I find it interesting to hear people's stories and opinions. I usually watch them while eating, so it's nicer that I don't need to scroll or do anything else than just read the text that changes automatically.

Perhaps once they don't feel so massively empty

I think that I would like to see AskLemmy have a PeerTube instance geared toward this. The more we look to federated solutions and not look to corporate ones, the more positive outcomes we will see.
