Got NMS right at launch and was so underwhelmed by actual experience compared to what was promised. Each new version reminded me of its existence, and once in a while I would fire it up to see what the new versions had to offer.
So much procedural generation making everything generic - there wasn't anything special about anything. It was the first game where I learned the term "inventory management". I could craft increasingly complex stuff, but why? To what purpose? The story was so weak I never felt compelled to continue. It sounds like the new updates are concentrating on some story based gameplay. We'll see.

Doing it now. Mostly fun, but why does every expedition seem to have one part designed to frustrate the hell out of me? lol
