I don't like to say "I killed the plant", per se.
I like to say "I keep it in a complex perpetual interplay of life and death".
A Schroedinger's plant, you could say.

Multiple times! Different types of fern, different rooms, different ways of watering, levels of light, fertiliser, misting with water... it made me half mad. I had to ban myself from buying more.
