You can run android and/or linux on a switch quite easily. It installs to the SD card rather then the on board memory. If your intrested check out switchroot! its really cool!

do you still game on the Switch? if so how's that work? i imagine it's not as easy as "there's a Lutris backend for the Nintendo store" or something (but if it is... i might well try that!)

Yes I do! Linux installs to the SD card so I can switch between hos android and linux when ever I want to! Basically I am quad booting my switch lmao.
