Do doctors have a legal duty to act?

Basically the title. When I was a lifeguard we had a duty to act and and provide emergency care; failure to do so could lead to legal action being taken.

So, I'm wondering, for example if someone is laying on the road, does a doctor have a legal duty to check if they're ok?

Québec is the only province in Canada that imposes a legal duty on physicians to come to the aid of a person in a life-threatening emergency.
