c/moderators · by beefbaby182@lemmy.world · 3yIf I make a community and select 'moderators only', is that the same thing as private or will it still be visible? I just want a sidebar to mess around with first before I make the changes to my actual community's sidebar. 6 points · 5 comments · view on lemmy.world

Moderators only means that only moderators are able to create new posts. Anyone can still view the community and interact with the posts/comments.

So ergo no posts=nothing to see. If I just give it some random name I should be fine, I'm guessing.

If you post, the post will be public.
If you squatted a community and didn't do anything with it I imagine you'd be at risk of:
What would be the purpose of a community that users can't post to and mods don't post to?

To test platform features. I used to have a private sub on Reddit for this purpose so when I was modding the real subs I knew what I was doing and how.

Fair enough. I'd recommend to fill out the sidebar with an explanation like this so folks understand what it's about. Good luck.
