You are right, they are very personal. It’s like in Bloodstained Ritual of the Nigh where, while the game itself is great but I can’t stand the art style. However many people seem to love it.
I don't know how many people "love" Bloodstained's art design. You either can look past it or you can't.
This looks great, though. I would take this look over Guacamelee's any day. Mostly because I don't like to play Guacamelee, but also I never loved the angular, flat look and the weight of the animations was all off for me.
I'm really annoyed that they won't let you remap movement to the d-pad, though. I'm probably going to wait until they implement that to give it another look.

I am not in love with this artstyle but if the gameplay is as crisp as one should expect from Evil Empire I will probably give this a chance.

Gameplay wise it reminds me of Guacamelee but with uninspired and uglier art style.

Preferences are wild. I think the art looks gorgeous and the animation looks incredibly fluid. The art style doesn't seem uninspired at all too me.

Oh I felt the same way about Bloodstained. I had no Castlevamia nostalgia and it just looked... dated.

I really like the art style and animations. I like the soft-touched looks to things and the unique characters.

The Rogue Prince of Persia does not seem like it comes even close to the greatness of Dead Cells. Am I missing something?

"New early access game that I haven't played can't be as good as one of the best and most successful entries in the entire genre."
Like... I get it, and personally I'm going to wait for 1.0, but it's definitely way too early to be making statements like that.

It is my personal impression based on what I have seen so far though.
