Bug report: cannot load an instance if a different one fails to load

I've tried this four times now, after I noticed it initially, for a total of five times

Steps to reproduce:

1. Load an instance that is down (I imagine using a bogus instance to force a failure would work too)
2. Try to load a different instance that you know is online
3. This, and any other instances, will not load until you restart the app
