Cornershop were among the vanguard of British Indian artists of the 1990s who added Asian influences to music genres in the UK along with legends like Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney. At the time, it was exciting to see this kind of cultural diffusion and experimentation enter the mainstream.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I would also say that specifically, having the subject matter being a tribute Indian music/cinema, their name being a reference to cultural stereotypes and the mix of musical styles and influences (Indian, electronica, indie etc.)
