Most of the time when I can't load media on Lemmy it works perfectly fine if you open it on the post's home instance. A Lemmy app dev explained somewhere that it was a problem with other instances not caching the media properly or something like that.

odd, my linux Arch Firefox can usually play mp4 videos. All the samples here work too https://samplelib.com/sample-mp4.html

.mp4 isn't codec though, is it? I think it can have various codecs, even h264.
