I just downloaded Signal to try it out for the first time. There are no contacts on my list when I click the pencil button. Does that mean that no one in my contact list has this app or is it a bug?

There are at least two criteria for a contact to appear:

the contact needs to use signal
they must not have disabled contact discovery (which I think is now disabled by default)

If you know they have signal, you can send a message request and they can accept it for you to be able to chat.

Have you given signal permission to access your contacts

Four years ago when I installed it, I had two people with signal on my contact list, lol.

Now it's more like 20. OP, definitely ask someone to install it too and test it.

But oh boy, you need better friends.

Then you may not have anyone in your contacts who use it.

You can test it by getting one of your contacts to install it and see it they appear.
