His skin turned blue after he began taking a homemade silver chloride colloid and rubbing a solution of colloidal silver on his face in an attempt to treat problems with his sinuses, dermatitis, acid reflux, and other issues.
Well, at least he's committed to finding a cure even if he started with quackerie.
He was a heavy smoker and underwent a triple bypass surgery in 2008.

Edit: maybe he thought wearing a blue shirt would help hide some of the smurfishness. It didn't though.

Edit: Here are some more blue Fugates. I can't verify any of the photos, but whatevs. It's interesting.
That's the Colloidal silver guy.. The Fugates had a blood disorder. All of it is fascinating though.
