This is a Boston Type 1 Keratoprosthesis.

It's real, but only looks like that when directly viewed under certain lighting.

This looks cool as fuck. Does it actually work, as in it can restore somebody’s vision? Or is there another purpose to it?

Accordingly, many studies have shown that implantation of this device is highly effective in restoring vision with very good short-term outcomes.
