because they are working in the salt water but everywhere else is full of air, the breathability is ping-ponging between 20% and 80%

Yeah, dupes can breathe from a 3x3 "+" shape, like the pumps. That is how vacuum held by single-bead liquid locks in unsuited areas gets broken.
