I've seen him do a lot of variations of the central figure, but what I love about this one is/are the background color gradients. The blues, greys, yellows and browns. Really cool!

Yes, I noticed that too in many of his works. The color gradients of the horizon, especially the sky often fading from blue into orange/pink, are indeed impressive. When I compare those gradients to an actual early sunset I find them to be very close to a perfect depiction.
