I installed FreeBSD on an old computer to use it as a server. What are the best next step?

I'm asking like packages/ports to install and things to install. I don't have a desktop environment yet, but I'm thinking about using i3

What tasks you want to run on it? There is no universal server setup.

This is the typical example of 'I have a solution here. No who's got a problem?' Hahahaha.

I want to run a mailserver and a jellyfin server at first.

For mail server you'll need:

  • dovecot
  • dovecot-pigeonhole
  • postfix
  • amavis
  • opendmarc
  • opendkim

Also be prepared, the mail server setup is not trivial.

Additionally, you'll need:

  • local-unbound
  • chrony

I can't help you for jellyfin, never installed it manually - I run it on unRaid Linux in docker.

Michael W. Lucas just released a book on how to do this. I've begun but not finished it. https://www.tiltedwindmillpress.com/product/ryoms-ebook/

That link is no longer available, is this one https://www.tiltedwindmillpress.com/product/ryoms/ the same book?
