TIL that the plant and color “fuschia” is actually spelled “fuchsia,” (pronounced fook-see-ya, not fyoo-shah) and named after a German botanist named Leonhart Fuchs.

It may be spelled fuchsia but it is still pronounced fyoo-sha in English. Maybe once upon a time that would have been a mispronunciation but nowadays it's standard English.

Looking forward to irritating my partner with this pronunciation.

Fook-see-ya is how it's pronounced in both Spanish and Portuguese

Lumidaub@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y

Well, why not go all the way then and spell it "Fuchsie"?
