Let's pick ourselves up

From Mikel's press conference:
I'm fully prepared to get fucked back to back.
Oneser@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 1y
The man has principles
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
I swear, this club and the manchester blue cunts are the worst clubs in the fucking world.
ironeaglebird@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Don't forget Chelshit.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
eh, they're just funny rn. Under Roman, yes; now, they're just trying to do a Leeds. Still cunts but not at "worst in the world" levels.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
you know it's bad though when even Saka doesn't look much up for it.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
Apparently no clean sheets in 6 — I mean, to be fair, we keep having to switch up the back four. But my word we need to fix up.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
I miss Ødegaard.
ironeaglebird@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
We don't gel the same way without him.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
Tbh this game has been making me realise just how much White does for us. Ødegaard also obviously a big miss.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
the commentary talking about us being good at stats and still losing the title last season. brother that's cuz city bought the fucking refs man
bootinelli@lemmyis.fun · 3 pts · 1y
Doesn't happen too often but we're actually worse than last season.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y
For the first stretch, red cards were the issue. Now it's the injuries. We had a lot of luck last season that we have completely lost.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
yeah, this game might be the first time that I've felt like we can't win the league this season.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Not Bournemouth? We looked pretty terrible even before the red. And I was very sure that losing Saliba for Liverpool would have knock-on effects, which I'm pretty sure we're seeing now.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Nah, I didn't, honestly. Cuz we had that Liverpool game right after, and we could just use that to catch up — and then we drew, but even then it felt more hopeful as a match.

sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
If we lose here it's basically over. There's no way we can expect City to drop that many points. And Newcastle have been woeful this season, there's no reason not to beat them
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
tbf St James is always a hard game just cuz of the stadium but like. yeah no we are disappointing. And that'll be two losses in a row in the league.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
That's the thing, though, Newcastle have been terrible all season. So of course they revive themselves for when we come to town.
City drew here and this was a chance to finally make up some points, and we're squandering it.
Playing with 10 men has decimated our squad on top of international injuries. Both things that we really need to address in future.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
how do we address the first thing, pay refs?
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
If we're really not going to win the league, then I think we need to hammer the refs. Call out every incident. Take the fines. We can't pay off the refs - we'd need to outbid Qatar.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Certainly feels like White wasn't meant to play today from his passing so far.
forgrytaboutit@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
Seems like half our team is carrying an injury. They all look like they need a 4 week vacation to recover.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Turns out playing 2 90s with 10 men means everyone is shattered already.
ironeaglebird@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Trossard off the bench dribbles past both defenders and gets a shot on goal.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
aghhh so close for Rice.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
I am not happy with Trossard. Though to be fair none of the attackers are getting any joy.
Also, why is it that, upon winning an aerial duel, 75% of the time it just goes straight back to the opposition? Do we have shit aim?
nuggsy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Feels like we've had the wrong side of the green for most of this season so far.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
And it'll continue because no one wants to admit that the league is fucked.
ironeaglebird@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Newcastle kicks it out of bounds and then gets possession back
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 3 pts · 1y
Well that was a dog shit performance from us for the entirety of that first half. Absolutely and utterly not good enough. Our second half and the three points all depend on how brave Arteta can be. Otherwise our title hopes are looking like they're gonna slip away.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
I think football just isn't going my way today.
and yes it is a pretty sizeable indictment to Arsenal that I've felt bored enough that I'm pulling an FM game up during the actual game.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
fuck.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 2 pts · 1y
That longball for Timber shows the problems with this team. Two centre forwards on the pitch and neither playing centrally. Swap Trosaard for Nwaneri and push Havertz up
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
That was a very impressive defending run from Gordon. Kinda just shoves Jesus out of the way though, sell it more and we could have had something.
Honestly this might be the first game that I've seen from them which really makes me think Gordon deserves to start for England on the left.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
I'm just watching this as if I'm a neutral now cuz fucking hell I'm not wanting to be angry about us right now. And I will be, so much will be, when we actually lose.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
I'm already angry. We're TEN MATCHES IN.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
And already we've been on the end of so much controversy, so many injuries, on top of just plain playing badly today and at Bournemouth. I'm so tired of it.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
If you want to win the title everything has to go right for you and you have to hope that the corrupt bloodsucking leeches that run the PGMOL don't decide that they don't want you to.
ironeaglebird@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Hopefully we pull the reverse of what we've been doing and have a killer second half.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
we've been quite dreadful today, ngl.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Back to the dark days, where we'd have the ball around their box for 20 minutes then in 5 seconds they'd have scored via 3 passes
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 2 pts · 1y
Zinchenko and Nwaneri coming on
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Starting to wonder what it is with Jesus that means we're not playing him, tbh.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 1 pts · 1y
He's just not offering much when he gets some minutes
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Neither has Trossard.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 1 pts · 1y
Right!
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 2 pts · 1y
We need sweeping changes
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y
I want Nwaneri at half-time, no one looks up for this game and there's not the creativity we need to find something. Problem is he's not exactly physically gonna be able to match up I feel.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 3 pts · 1y
We just need him to pull a Cazorla
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
I do appreciate that we've gone back to basics and actually having a 4-3-3 now.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
has to score that.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Someone who's able to watch: are they at least getting tired? If not I can't see how we get anything out of today.
forgrytaboutit@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Not yet, at least defensively. They're up for this game. We don't look it.
They are not getting the ball forward as much, but they seem to be set up for a counter.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Trossard has just not looked great has he. I'm honestly not sure why he still starts, tbh; nor why we still are trying this four four fucking two shit.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Honestly for a while he was doing really well to help lead the press with Havertz. But either he's tired or he's lost the spark; he isn't scoring and he isn't really helping out too much creatively either.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
I think you need Jesus and Zinchenko on here, tbh. Just not enough centrally. Trossard needs to come off.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Jesus needs to play today, honestly. Put him on for Trossard after the break or something.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
What's the chant that's to the tune of Santi Cazorla's there?
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
I actually can't name a single thing Saka's done this second half.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
That was impressive to get that ball from Zinny there, lol.
forgrytaboutit@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Set plays are apparently another area where we aren't as good as last year.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Not got Ben White on.
gunnerfra@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
That was a really flat poor performance. We really don’t seem to lift our game unless we are playing the big big clubs.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Like, I get that that happened cuz of being off balance, but what's Trossard doing wrapping his arms round someone's legs there XD
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Is Arteta Eidevall in disguise, why are we just cross and inshallah so much today... i'm tired boss
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Looking forward to seeing +1 minute
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Four four facking two
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 0 pts · 1y
No changes at halftime. WTF Arteta?
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
He doesn't like doing half-time changes to win the game is what I've noticed. Wants to give the players a chance to make amends, probably.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
I accept that, but I think 15 minutes is more than enough time to demonstrate whether you're going to make amends. He always waits til 70 to change things up and it's hurt us a lot this season. I assume because teams have us more figured out.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
I mean, he did make two subs at 60 today, lol.
sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Oh, my phone said 70. But I was also a) on my bike and b) blinded with rage, so I probably just misread it.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · -1 pts · 1y
Arteta has had a stinker of megalithic proportions.
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
On the players, this, tbh. Everyone looking impotent.
sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al · 1 pts · 1y
Arteta picked the team and refused to make changes until his usual 65th minute
Astrealix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
two players came on by 61.
