I always grew up calling them Crab Apples until I found out apparently those are just wild apples rather than these guys lol I'd never heard them called Hedge Apples before until I looked it up more recently

Crabapples are different from regular apples, it’s not just an apple tree in the wild. They’re smaller and more tart.

We used to call them "spider balls" because they were rumored to keep spiders away but that is false. I've never heard horse apples but Osage Orange is also common in my area
