I was hoping for a larger overhaul - the game still feels unrewarding most of the time even though the difficulty was spiked.

For sure. It definitely needs a little extra tweaking. But at least they've made some good moves. Hopefully they keep it up.

Still hoping for some change to how the vault works in the showcase

I don't see them reworking the vault any time soon, but it would be a huge plus. The vault is such a mess currently.
