It's actually easier to discard scenes that bog down the pacing, or to summarize rambling if it's written badly. I switched from polishing after every session to just telling myself the story first, with no regard to the writing quality, which took off a lot of stress.

That roughly matches my experience - once the stories out it's much easier to "fix" than it is to do fixes every day
