Populous: the beginning - I'm not sure whether it's 100% RTS, but the game was sweet back when it was still new. One of first "you're god" video games series.
Ha, I'm happy to see another oldschool RTS' aficionado. Truth be told, I wasn't sure which game to post today, Populous, Megalomania or Black & White. 😆
As for the question - I'm not competent enough to answer it. On the one hand, B&W wasn't named a successor of Populous. On the other, there ARE some similarities. I guess that games akin to Worldbox seem more like successors to Populous.

Are black and white the successors to this? Man those were fun. I tried out populous a while back, but it was having issues running
