This is pretty spot on and is the fate of any [not just] art movement.

It is of course not the people's fault, they don't exactly decide what the next `pop' thing will be. In many cases, their first encounter with a certain style/movement happens only once it turns into pop culture, which in turn perpetuates the misunderstanding of what the original intention of the movement was.
