Also, if you have a VPN with/or DNS blocking capabilities, you can find the API endpoints here

Search for generativelanguage

Got this a couple weeks ago. What a garbage way to promote your cloud AI.

What a garbage way to promote your cloud AI.

Just like how Meta AI is in WhatsApp. And normal users are liking the convience of it.

LLMs can't count.

Use Fossify SMS messenger [f-droid link]

andyortlieb@lemmy.sdf.org · 14 pts · 1y (8 replies)

Looks like it doesn't do RCS

Nothing does :(

Beeper is built on matrix and uses a bridge to RCS, so I've thought of using that in place of Google messages, but you have to link it with Google messages, so it doesn't really help me with escaping Google

Google are assholes and refuse to actually build an open standard that can replace SMS

andyortlieb@lemmy.sdf.org · 3 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I'm not sure if I want Google to be the ones to do that. Ideally there would be some involvement from a proper standardization body like ITU.

But in my shallow understanding of RCS, it seems like a good candidate. I thought I read that Apple was starting to roll it out this year...

Hey thanks for the deep context & lore, that was refreshingly orienting!

ricecake@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y

They have rolled it out pretty extensively. My various conversations with Apple folks have all switched over.

Cris_Color@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

Yeah, that's fair. I just meant they've built RCS, and kinda presented it as a replacement, but it's a walled garden they've built, unlike SMS.

I didn't know Apple might roll it out! That'd be cool! Though really what I want is just the possibility of an open source client

As a millennial this caused me to break from reality

db2@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y

I did the same thing.

Use signal or element.

Make others switch or ghost them. If they want to continue talking to you, then they can spend 5 seconds making sure your data isn't mined by AI.

Virkkunen@fedia.io · 9 pts · 1y

This seems good and all on paper but in the real world this means you become a social outcast that's left out of everything

andyortlieb@lemmy.sdf.org · 7 pts · 1y

I'm ok with continuing to talk to people who aren't ready or willing to understand that.

VintageGenious@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y

Use signal

unwaveringegg@endlesstalk.org · 2 pts · 1y

I quite like using it in Messages. But I wish it was consistent with activating on the phone via the home button and that the history carried over as I don't think the latter it does.
