I’m a bit worried what they mean by “cool, fresh directions”

I had more fun with Torchlight 2 than any Diablo game. I can't believe every ARPG after it didn't copy/steal the pet system to go sell things in town for you.

I really liked the Titan Quest game, it's basically a diablo based on Greek mythology (plus china, Norse and Plato's Atlantis with expansions)

Path of Exile 2 is pretty good. Wasd movement and a dodge roll are nice. Some parts are still rough, but it's been out like a month.

I don't really trust that just anyone will make something new and fun. Something that tries to extract money, sure.

ooo I didn't know that, due to my carpal tunnel and finger problems I've been leaning towards more controller based games and I thought PoE2 wouldn't be like that ... maybe I'll try it in early access this holiday season.

PoE2 works really fine on a controller, some even say the game seems to be made for a controller first.

Som they are making Path of Exile?
