What do you with the skill gems you loot but have no use because you upgraded all your skills already? Sell them for a penny? I don't plan to reroll a character.

You'll want some to four or five link with vaal orbs.

In PoE2 you add sockets/links to skill gems directly instead. A cheap way to get a skill gem with four support sockets is to use a lesser jeweler orb on it to get three sockets and then a vaal orb to gamble for a fourth one.
