Good morning and happy new year, fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT đ!
We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but weâre here together!
Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! Iâm pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.
Maybe youâre new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe youâre like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe youâve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.
It doesnât matter if youâre still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, letâs not drink alcohol!

Day one of my new life.
I did not choose January 1st for the good resolutions but because I suck at maths, so that makes it easier to count and remember.
I have a psy from my local hospital addiction center to help me and Iâm finishing the book from Allen Carr today.
So here we are, day one again. But this time for the last time, I canât wait to come back here for day 365.

Depending on your level of use, be aware that alcohol withdrawal can directly kill you. Be careful if you notice any intense symptoms like cold sweats, tremors, nausea and vomiting.

I know, I donât have that problem. I donât have much of physical dependence and I often donât drink for several days (when working for example).
Itâs mostly psychological, thatâs why books like this naked mind or the simple method helps me a lot.
But if I continue I will be in that deep pit in a few years and have alcohol withdrawal symptoms so thatâs another good motivation.

Better to cut it out early for sure. It didn't take me years to go from being able to quit without issue to having seizures in medical detox so bad they had to keep me sedated for 3 days.

How do You like the book?
Skunk@jlai.lu · 3 pts · 1y
So far I like it better than âthis naked mindâ.
Maybe it is because the simple method as been translated in my native language (French) whereas I had to read this naked mind in English.
Iâll finish it tomorrow.

I've got 38 days today. Last night was my first NYE without alcohol in decades. Tried to sleep through it, but was woken to hundreds of gun shots, which is fun.
But I made it. Planning on hitting a meeting today with a house mate from the sober house. I'm not much of one for 12 step meetings, but it's a low cost to pay for the opportunity to get my life back together over the next 13 months in this program.

Congrats on overcoming that hurdle. Holidays can be really tough especially that first one when youre used to getting smashed.
