Nice socks but not unix, doesn't belong here

Try programmingsocks

You may not like it, but the rules say "any operating system is fine". I don't like Windows either, but this post is technically correct.

"as long as you're doing cool, or unique stuff with it"

This seems like a low effort post, vanilla Windows setup with a pair of socks.

more just trying to say i got a new laptop lol, maybe should've showed more of my xp setup though because at least i actually did something there

Technically you need to do something cool like modifying it in a significant way, however if you want to follow the spirit of the community you need a Unix like OS (Linux, MacOS, FreeBSD, etc).

So why is it called !UNIXsocks@lemmy.blahaj.zone then?

kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Honestly I have no idea why non-unix OSs are allowed. Maybe its because this community is so small that the mods decided they want quantity over quality or consistency.

Specs of the socks?, asking for a friend

Where's the XP setup?

I see a laptop with Windows 11?, and a big screen with what looks like a Windows 7 task bar but none of the pretty, blocky XP menu or the lovely paper airplanes flying between folders.

And where's the customary fetch script hmmm?

Also ddr1 RAM is impressive lol

RowanBird779@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

it's the monitor above the laptop, i'm using the Windows XP "Zune" theme (which is orange and black btw) because it looks nice, should've made it more clear

also yeah it's socket 939 they all run ddr1 :)

Ziglin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Wow, I didn't know that there was theming for XP, is it natively supported?

RowanBird779@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 1y

it's part of a set of themes that were distributed by Microsoft, so yes! although it will only accept themes that are digitally signed (i.e. from microsoft) unless you use a patch
