Some of it is the on boarding within the game itself (official matchmaking) is super toxic towards female players, a league like esl impact helps foster competition and develop talent within the female player base, also having all female leagues is not really the end goal but more like a stepping stone towards having mixed teams. Which leads to having a larger player base to pull players from and that ends up being a positive for everyone in the scene.

I don't follow eSports but why does a video game need gendered leagues? Gender has no performance impacts for video games.
