Keeping your "old parts" is one seriously under explored consequence of resurrections with regrowth.
And that is one nasty way of saying "don't lie to your family" to your friends =D

And it's good to keep a little, just in case you have the opportunity for Clone and don't want to cut out more.
I wouldn't expect you'd just keep a rotting head though. Does it still count as a creature for the purposes of Gentle Repose? Do they just not have a good way to get rid of the flesh and they want to keep the skull?

As a little bit of a curious side-note, this is the creative process behind key location backgrounds. Making sure everything is exactly how we'd see it if we stood there, in-universe, true to Ed Greenwood's wonderful world... that really brings the scenes to life in my mind...
