Hmm, there wasn't really a process, just putting parts together until I found something that looked pretty good... the pot and the tray are only about half the size of the original because I was trying to get a different look, but I wanted to limit it to just what was in the box. The trees are really very different - the canopy on the original is basically one flat layer, but I wanted a more tiered style. Here's a side-by-side:
