What no one really wants to admit here on YC is that the userbase here is something like the top .01% of (intelligence / literacy / analytical skills)

Definitely top 0.01% of egos.

When I first found out of Hacker News years ago I was pretty excited - and then quickly disappointed.

The comments were worse than on Reddit. Maybe I had just bad luck, but it looked like everyone liked nothing but to smell their own farts. The experience turnend me pretty fast away.

That's a blast from the past...
