If this helps others, great. It would absolutely suck the fun out of legos for me, but I also haven’t played with legos in probably over a decade, despite the occasional opportunity.

I see it as a launching point/ inspiration, like seeing what a friend comes up with and then trying something better yourself

Yeah that's fine. I came on strong. The idea that Lego is for imaginative play is one I've had to go to bat for a lot, over the years with my kid. I might have unresolved tensions about it.
