I was allowed to watch The Simpsons from when it started but for some reason my dad felt the treehouse of horror episode where Snake gets the electric chair was unsuitable and made me turn it off. We had watched all kinds of gorey movies by that point too, it was literally a sudden burst of offence
I wasn't allowed to watch The X-Files until I was 10 and then it was my favorite show ever, and I was pissed. On the plus side, they then went and bought me the old episodes on VHS. Or at least some of them.
