What are these markings from? Bugs?

Noticed these markings near floor level in my flat. Are these man made somehow or made by bugs?

Man made. Caused by the person cutting the plank doing a shit job.

Figures. They did a rapid renovation of this apartment with cheap labor.

Was this caused by too much for from the tool used to cut?

Basically small chips pulled off rather than cut off. I might have gone with a finer tooth saw, but not master carpenter to speak to that part.

Cut damage. They cut the board without some protection and that ruined the hard white layer. Shitty carftmanship.

If you're renting, take photos and make sure it's in your property report. You'll likely get charged for the "damage" if you don't.

Also, do a walk-through with video when you move in, take it slow and cover every surface. It's amazing what you can prove was already there.
