He was already unpopular, so this is a pretty smart move to visibly remove him and gain something from it. It makes Carney look even better while getting rid of some dead weight.

The Edmonton subreddit figured it was that seat or EDM Centre, which coincidentally was another disgraced MP seat held by Randy Boissonneault who just announced he won't run again. They think Mayor Sohi will run for southeast due to demographics and family connections in that area.
