Ngl, I don't think I've ever had a bad sloppy joe. Some that were more just edible than really enjoyable, but it's hard to mess up browned beef with spiced tomato sauce.
But, yeah, you make a sauce yourself, really dial in the spice mix, and it can be next level good, waaaaay better than your school cafeteria joe.

Legit though, what's not to like, if you eat meat at all?
Meaty goodness, tomato sweet tanginess, the kick of spices.
I mean, it is essentially chili on a bun, just more tomato focused. But isn't that a good thing?

Though, on a practical side, I know a guy that eats all sandwiches with a knife and fork for that reason. Even grilled cheese!

I am shocked and horrified, as a lover of sloppy joes. I think a lot of people just haven't had good sloppy joes, and so don't have a good reference.
