I have a decent sized collection of records coming in currently at 429 12” + a handful of 45s, singles and a stack of odd but cool postcard records. I’ll think of a random number, then look it up on a spreadsheet with my current inventory that’s sorted A-Z by Artist. Today was 222 so I’m currently listening to King Gizzard and the Lizard’s Polygondwanaland. How do you pick what to listen to?

Open the Discogs app to my collection.
Shake my phone.
Rock on.

It does what?! I've been happy enough using the web UI, but now I suppose I have to download the app 😂

Yah, when you shake your phone it randomly takes you to one thing in your collection. I keep that up to date, so it works well.

Turns out it has the same feature for the wantlist — in case you don't know what to buy next, I guess? Please tell me how to spend my money, Discogs! 😂

I go by mood and what I'm about to do, then I go for the one I didn't listen for a long time, or the one I'm singing in my mind. Apart from that, its times that I just go through my collection and pick one random.

My collection is only like a third of yours, so it's easier to keep an overview of things. And still I can squat in front of the vinyl shelf for several minutes without deciding 😆

I like Chosic and Music-Map when I'm looking for similar music.
