American here. I get the sense that a lot of other countries are using Trump as a foil to distract from the fact that they aren't doing the best job themselves.
There's a wide gulf between being a better leader than Trump and being an effective leader.

Usually guys like you don't lead international politics, no matter what nation or what time they lived in.
Now, if you meant something more along the lines of "...fuck that, I don't want Canada to lead anything", then that's an entirely different issue.
