I feel like this is how it starts. Something relatively minor, like banning books, but that escalates to throwing legal permanent residents into a foreign megaprison, then claiming that "They're under the sole purview of that other country, we can't do anything" when asked to bring them back.

The idiot leader we have here will do nothing. I remember when England had a backbone and the people would have stood up and said enough but not any more. The UK will probably be the 51st state before Canada..
