It’s been an interesting 10-ish days on the internet in general. Big thanks to @jonah@lemmy.one for hosting Lemmy.one. It’s a cool community, and I’m really enjoying the fediverse thus far. Looking forward to seeing how it develops!

Howdy neighbor!

Howdy! Just getting used to this fediverse thing after years of reddit

Same! Lots of cool tech to digest.

Honestly since discovering Lemmy I've only revisited the big R a time or two. It's ridiculous how ready I am to move on to the next evolution.

I’ve only gone back to look at what I was subbed to there that I’m missing here, so I could find a similar replacement.
The best thing I like over here is the lack of pre existing content. We have to interact and build a new thing instead of just consuming what’s being fed to us.
It makes all of the interactions feel so much more meaningful.

The only thing I've gone back for are my saved "homework related" posts

...that means porn, right?

Yes.

This is the best instance!!!!

Big agree on that one! :-)

How do we branch out and discover communities in the other instances?
Maffrow@kbin.social · 4 pts · 3y
How long did it take for your account to get approved? Been waiting a couple of days now and if that’s normal then that’s all cool. Just wasn’t sure.
CarrierLost@lemmy.one · 2 pts · 3y
About 24 hours, give or take. Afaik, it's just one person manually approving them all right now, so I'm sure there's a backlog.

That’s fair. Can imagine the number of applications are increasing daily.

If you can get ahold of @jonah they should get you sorted. :)

Interesting thought based on the replies so far:
Just as a thought experiment, with humans being tribal by nature, you can see people already segmenting in those ways.

The most interesting one for me to watch is that despite similar moderation styles, Lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works are diverging in community character

It’s true. And as two of the larger instances, we should be able to see identity develop fairly quickly.

Going pretty well. I was already familiar with fediverse which helps. It can still get a bit confusing. Jeroba on Android is a pretty good app. I'd like to start submitting content so I can leave Reddit for good.
CarrierLost@lemmy.one · 2 pts · 3y
Yeah, content submission is a little wonky from mobile still, so I’ve mainly been commenting. I added a couple from the desktop browser and it’s good.
Just trying to engage with posts I like to keep activity up.

I want to submit items to this instance to help it grow but there aren't very many communities. Any suggestions? For example I have some stuff that I would normally post to the TheNightFeeling subreddit but I'd like to post it here. Is there a general sub I can post it in?
