That is odd, I am pretty sure that I have seen at least half a dozen and I have only played for a little under 200 hours.

I love this. It creates some kind of weird real feeling i cannot describe.

It feels like world building for a novel I haven't read but several people online I follow have read and are doing think pieces on.

I feel like VFE making them cats was a mistake. It removed a fun personal goal that encouraged playing with genes.
