Just met hambams vet at the dog park. Lovely lady and very hard core knew her shit and doesn't suffer fools that's for sure. Had a nice long walk and chat with her around the park. Convo got surprisingly personal. She invited me back to her practice up the road, had some champagne w/ her and her assistant and got some great tips on hambam.

Offered me use of her clinic to leave the dog there and for training whenever I need if I need to go help my mum.

So random.

There are kind souls out there but I was not expecting that.

Leaving Melbourne for the first time since 2018. Off to Perth this afternoon!

Enjoy! Go to Kings Park Botanic Gardens, highly rate it.

Force_majeure123@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I went to UWA for about a semester and lived on campus at Currie Hall - King's park was my back yard! I love it there

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

You lucky duck! UWA has such a gorgeous campus. I studied in WA for one semester but not there; I did visit their library and grounds a few times though and dreamt of roaming their hallowed halls...

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 12 pts · 1y (10 replies)

If ya'll are delaying the dentist piece of advice: a cleaning regularly can prevent a filling. Ask me how I know. Also if your yet to do a will please consider this an order to go get that done ASAP.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I do have a dentist appt scheduled in less than a month but I'm dreading it because I have NOT, despite repeated pleading from my dentist, been flossing regularly let alone using an electric toothbrush like I said I will. I might push the appt back a bit depending on when I wrap up uni so I can try and make up for bad dental hygiene a bit (I know that's not how it really works, sigh).

I signed up to be on organ donor lists and get do not resuscitate orders back when had just passed 18, but I haven't yet done a will because I have fuck-all to leave behind anyway tbqh. I'll definitely get one drafted if/when I buy my own place, some day in the murky future.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Those floss piks help a lot. (The green Allsmiles ones are the best ones.) Having a packet next to my bed means it gets done.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (7 replies)

๐Ÿ˜ฃ both are on my list of things to do. Denist is happening next Monday, but I keep putting the will creation off. Too many hard decisions

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

are you waiting for a sign? Good news this is it! Do your will. Do it soon. Tomorrow isnt promised and you just know the government will give your money away to Gina!

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Good god, not giving $ to Gina is incentive enough

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Wills are replaceable. You can make one set of choices now, and change your mind later and make a new Will. This is actually recommended if you have significant lifestyle/situation changes - eg. retirement or divorce or serious illness. If cost is holding you back, some Will providers do a cheapie basic version that can be suitable for say, next 10 years or so. That buys you time to do serious estate planning.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y

Thatโ€™s actually really good to know. Iโ€™ve got a complex family situation and keep getting hung up on making the โ€˜rightโ€™ choices. Even doing a shorter-term basic one is actually a really good idea

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Iโ€™ve been thinking on this. Considering whether a will kit from the post office would do

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

PO Will kits are very very basic. If your situation and requirements are more complex than 'everything to X', then you really do need to at least talk to a professional. Also, it's very easy to invalidate your Will due to inadequate signing and witnessing. Signing and witnessing requirements are same for Will kits as for professionally drawn up Wills. Invalidation means that the Will is ineffective.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 1y

Ah damn. I donโ€™t own any property or stocks and have no kids so it might be adequateโ€ฆ basically I planned for Melbcat to go to someone and they would get my remaining money to care for her.

Not sure I have the means to discuss with a professional

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 11 pts · 1y (7 replies)

how goods a crumpet with a bit of butter and peanut butter?!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y

A bit? Lol. Butter needs to be slapped on with a trowel.

Peanut butter and butter. You and @Bottom_racer@aussie.zone are my people.

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 1y (1 reply)

butter and peanut butter

That argument needs to be put to rest.

There needs to be both.

It has been written and therefore is.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

theres no argument. Theres people who like it and then people who are wrong.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y

What is wrong with you?

crumpets are made with little holes so they can hold butter and JAM or HONEY

crumpets are a little sweet so go with sweet things

english muffins with PB is good

Frost on my neighbour's roof this morning. Haven't seen that before. Grass at tramstop was white with frost except for a ring around each tree roughly equal to the canopy of that tree.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 10 pts · 1y (9 replies)

First the Liberals get utterly trounced in the elections, now the Nationals are actually deciding to leave the coalition! Well well well. What a year for Australian politics. This will make passing legislation even more interesting... will the Liberals survive being reduced to 28 pathetic seats across the entire country?

Personally I'd love to see country Australia wake the fuck up but these nuclear-touting ass-backward idiots look set to stay for a while. Maybe this breakup could be good for the Liberals to regain some respectability

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

theyll be back. nationals cant win without libs to try take the city seats. Fuck knows they aint winning any city/suburban seats themselves!

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

Maybe they shouldn't aim to win but to represent their electorate.

tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I was thinking about this when I saw the news. Now is the best time for them to split since they're both so politically insignificant. It won't make any difference and they'll probably all vote the same way. They'll probably get back together in a few terms when the libs seem electable again.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y

Well, this might be a wildcard but I'd like to see the Liberals start to follow more in the line of the Teals and importantly, stay that way to win back more seats. In which case the Nationals will either hold onto their ideals and become increasingly politically irrelevant, or be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century in order to form a coalition with the reformed Liberals.

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I'm loving the idea of the Libs as a minor party. Some consequences for the 2 party preferred system though - Anthony Green or young Mr Briggs will have to generate a whole new set of statistics ...

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y

I suppose it becomes an issue with the 2PP system where the Nats and Libs both contest a seat which is generally quite rare, I think? I would expect that even as separate parties they'll agree not to fight each other on the same turf too much as they wouldn't want to split the vote and have (shudder) some other party win.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

At last. The Liberals have not had the interests of rural Australia at heart for decades. Not since that cunt John Elliot betrayed them and sold Elders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Elliott_(businessman)

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I don't even know if the Nationals have the interests of rural Australia at heart besides mining, really...

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

My husband was on that trend a few years back, he lasted about 1 month.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (5 replies)

I remember Michael Mosley did something on this a few years ago. Itโ€™s only effective when eaten, supplements donโ€™t work. Something about heat activated or fats to absorb it. So just enjoy some curries instead! Huh I actually found it Tumeric

Catfish@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (4 replies)

I cook with it all the time. Just found these in the cupboard and thought why the heck not?

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 1y

Back when I was in cancer treatment, a few people (actually quite a lot of people) recommended turmeric tea/capsules to help settle a very disturbed digestive system. I took ONE dose and was spitting/shitting bright yellow for several days. This never happened when I cook with fresh turmeric root which I actually like. Stick with the real thing I reckon.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Tim Wilson is 128 votes ahead with only 86 envelopes left to count; Zoe can't win on indicative preferences but (a) let's see what the formal distribution of preference yields, and (b) CAN THE MARGIN GO BELOW 100?!?! In which case it's more likely that the AEC would do a recount.... though I still think it'd need a total fluke/miracle for Zoe to retain her seat.

DolphinLundgrin@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

More sorting at home turned out to be a good decision. I got a bunch more stuff onto the hard rubbish pile (just in time, they've just picked up all the metal bits) and have found someone to take the chest freezer from the shed. A couple more things are up for sale, and with the freezer and some other clutter gone I have enough room to actually start sorting and packing things up properly.

Movie review. The Hound of the Baskervilles. 1978.

a homage to silent movies by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore,

is very english in it's burlesque style

4 hobbits just for the music, which is very very good

and for Dudley Moore's bosom which seems to grow every scene ...lol

( if people are looking for a story that makes sense they are looking for the wrong thing, it's just a framework for pete an dud to make lots of jokes with a bunch of their friends and for dud to play beautiful music )
